Distance Learning was introduced to me at a very young age, but was not completely understood or used until now. When I was in middle school and high school, distance learning was used in school and out. My parents introduced me to KhanAcademy and other websites they would have to a lesson each weekend to get ahead. However other apps such as notability, IXL, FLVS, etc are just a few of the apps I was introduced to in high school. These apps helped me watch lessons, practice vocabulary skills, and learn more in a subject out of the classroom when the teacher was not with me. Now that Covid-19 has brought everyone into remote learning, Distance Learning is the new norm. I have been in asynchronous and synchronous classes. I honestly have really liked a lot about distance learning. It allows me to learn at the comfort of my room, as well as more time for work and myself because I don't have to physically go to classes. However, it has created isolation from meeting new people and has made corporation work and learning visually and hands on hard. As a teacher I can incorporate distance learning within my classroom by applying some of the apps that allow additional learning on a subject such as IXL or Membean to help the students gain more knowledge on a subject but does not require me being there.
Open Educational Resources, aka OER, is learning resources via the internet that is open and accessible to anyone for free. These resources fall under a category in Creative Commons that makes the resource able to be edited, taken and used, shared, and applied in a way that benefits you. By having OER it allows not only teachers but students to be able to access updated and learning materials regardless of location or money. Below is a link to a website of examples of some Open Educational Resources that educators and learners can use to enhance their knowledge and learning for free.
After having worked with Powerpoint in these last two Assignments I have learned a few new things I never knew about. I grew up using and learning how to use Powerpoint, so the application is not unfamiliar to me. However I never had to make an assignment where you had to record yourself to create a lecture type slideshow. I also never had to create a game or quiz like powerpoint. I always thought that educational games were created or used from a website. I learned how to record myself. I learned how to link words or answers to other pages in the powerpoint, I also learned more about the slideshow options to prevent people from moving about the slideshow. There was not much I didn't like about the assignments, as I found them easy to follow and do. The only thing I didn't really like was my voice recording on the powerpoint as well as the time consuming linking of answers to different slides not forgetting what came next.
