As a future teacher I plan on using data collection tools such as surveys and quizzes to be able to collect data from not only my students but parents on a subject. Surveys will allow me to ask questions in multiple choice questions as well as short answers to my students and parents of the students on a topic to get their opinions. As a First grade teacher, some survey questions I may ask could be, "Out of the three educational games we played this week, which of the three did you like and learn the most from?", "Was the homework load for your child this week, too much for them to handle this week or were they comfortable?", even " What did you like and silk from this class? What could I do to better my teaching for the next students?". These questions are opinionated questions depending on the student and parent filling them out. Surveys allow me to gain more opinions and accumulate them all at the end for the best results/ Quizzes differ in the fact they are more on testing someones knowledge on a subject or topic in multiple choice questions, short answer, true or false, etc. A lot of quizzes are usually able to be graded right after submission. For First graders I will be using quizzes and tests after units or subjects to be able to test my students to see how fell they did or did not grasp a concept. This will help me able to see if we can move on to the next lesson or go back through and learn some more. Surveys and Quizzes use the data to better their teaching skills and classrooms.
After reviewing some of my classmates blog posts some topics I found quite interesting is Diigo. After reading through a few of the blog posts where we were asked to say what we liked and disliked when using Diigo, almost every blog post I reads the author stated they have never heard nor used Diigo before this class. Similarly a lot of blog posts i read through stated a lot on what they didn't know and had learned in this class. I find it almost comforting that like me many others came into this class unfamiliar with a lot about technology, website designing, powerpoint/quiz making, apps such as Diigo, etc. I have really learned a lot about how to use technology apps more than what I learned in middle school and high school on a surface level. Its also cool to read peoples personal experiences and opinions on subjects and assignments that may or may not differ from mine.
A technology-related skillI would like to further my learning on would probably have to be about software organization and internet blocking. I know enough about computers to use common apps for school or for personal reasons but there is still a lot I really don't know. I never really understood software updates, storage, and saving files in different locations. As a teacher I believe this would be an important skill to learn because teachers not only have their school life and school stuff on their computers but they also have outside lives that require their technology. As a teacher I won't want to share or let me students be able to see my personal stuff on my computer when presenting in class. Along with this software updates are always hitting us. Often times if we forget to update something, an app or website may not work without the update. If I know more about the updates if the students get stuck or cannot access what is expected of them I will be able to know what is going on and help them update their softwares if needed. Internet site blocking or ad blocks are also very common where sites will require you to enable ads to access. I am not very familiar with how to allow or block ads on my computer.
